[EN] Next Tuesday (April 22nd) will be Earth Day! Earth day is an annual celebration which promotes environmental protection, waste reduction, and prioritizing the use of renewable energy over non-renewable energy in an effort to create a less polluted world.
Earth Day’s origins begin in the United States when, after nation-wide protests against local pollution reached a breaking point in 1970, Senator Gaylord Nelson established Earth Day. These efforts led to the US government creating the Environmental Protection Agency to help establish more environmentally-friendly regulations across the nation, and Earth Day became recognized internationally! Today, Earth Day is celebrated globally in over 193 countries worldwide and serves to remind us of the importance of protecting natural habitats all over the world. One of the things we heavily emphasise at The Old School is the importance of recycling and reducing our own waste, a rule which we extend to both our students and teachers. [FR] Mardi prochain (22 avril) sera le Jour de la Terre! Célébrée chaque année, la Journée de la Terre promeut la protection de l'environnement, la réduction des déchets et privilégie l'utilisation des énergies renouvelables aux énergies non renouvelables afin de créer un monde moins pollué.
Les origines du Jour de la Terre remontent aux États-Unis, lorsque, après l'explosion des manifestations nationales contre la pollution locale en 1970, le sénateur Gaylord Nelson a instauré le Jour de la Terre. Ces efforts ont conduit le gouvernement américain à créer l'Agence de protection de l'environnement (EPA) pour contribuer à l'instauration de réglementations plus respectueuses de l'environnement à travers le pays, et le Jour de la Terre a acquis une renommée internationale! Aujourd'hui, le Jour de la Terre est célébré dans plus de 193 pays et nous rappelle l'importance de la protection des habitats naturels partout dans le monde.
